LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--ACE Group today announced the appointment of Jim Smith as Medical Malpractice Product Manager & Chief Underwriting Officer for ACE Overseas General (AOG), as it continues to focus on underwriting excellence and to expand its global footprint in the field of medical professional liability.
In this role, Jim will oversee underwriting execution of ACE’s medical liability insurance business in all retail markets globally outside North America. As well as overseeing existing portfolios, he will also drive targeted expansion of ACE’s global footprint into new markets – with a focus on emerging economies.
He will be responsible for all technical product, pricing, operations, reinsurance, and head referral functions for medical malpractice internationally. He will also be responsible for developing and promulgating technical underwriting tools needed for this line of business and for driving new product development. Jim will report to Marc Poliquin, Senior Vice President, Professional Indemnity Product Head, within the financial lines division of ACE Overseas General. He will also help support the initiatives led by Caroline Clouser, Executive Vice President and Practice leader, ACE USA Medical Risk Group and Chair of the Global Medical Professional Liability Board. The appointment is effective immediately and he will be based in Chicago.
With more than 29 years of property and casualty insurance experience, Jim most recently served as Vice President, ACE USA Medical Risk Group. In this position he handled primarily excess hospital business, managed the Midwest region for facilities business, and was also involved in assisting other ACE offices around the globe in underwriting international medical malpractice opportunities. Prior to joining ACE in 2005, Jim held positions in healthcare and general liability areas for several global insurance and reinsurance carriers. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University located in Indiana.
